Undead Hunter Challenges (2024)

Undead Hunter Challenges are a set of ambient challenges in Undead Nightmare. Completion of these challenges is necessary in order to obtain the Legend of the Apocalypse outfit and 100% game completion in Undead Nightmare.

Challenges[]

• Rank 1: Kill 100 Fresh Undead and 25 Bolters. Reward: Ammo.
• Rank 2: Kill 25 more Bruisers and 15 more Retchers.
• Rank 3: Use a single explosion of a Retcher to kill two other Undead.
• Rank 4: Kill two Undead bears, five Undead wolves, and three Undead cougars using a torch. Reward: Ammo.
• Rank 5: Find and kill the Chupacabra. Reward: LeMat Revolver and Evans Repeater.

Tips[]

• Rank 3
  • An easy way to do this is to hogtie a Retcher and two other Undead, place them near each other and shoot the Retcher in the head. A good opportunity is after the side-mission "Filth and Other Entertainment". Another option is to go to Las Hermanas before saving it; there will be a multitude of Retchers and regular undead.
  • Another easy way to achieve this is with the cannon at the main entrance of El Presidio. There is often a Retcher that spawns to the left of the player on the cliff side. Use undead bait to create a group of undead and simply shoot the Retcher in the head.
  • If Gaptooth Breach is under attack by the undead hordes, it's a good idea to go there to complete the challenge, as there will be a number of Retchers in the area. Use Undead Bait to attract the undead, and once there are a few undead and a Retcher next to each other, shoot the Retcher in the head so it will explode. If the player times it right, and two undead are in the blast radius of the Retcher once it explodes, the player should have completed the challenge.
  • Be mindful that while this particular rank can be completed before the player completes the mission "American Imperialism", it may be wiser to leave this rank until after that particular mission is completed, as the player will have access to Nuevo Paraiso after that mission is passed, and therefore, there will be more opportunities for the player to find Retchers.

• Rank 4
  • It is easiest to get this rank when riding one of the Four Horses of the Apocalypse. The animals will jump at the horse but they can't reach the player or kill the horse. Note that the Undead Bear and Undead Cougar can sometimes injure the player even while riding a horse. You can find all three animals at Tall Trees, these fierce animals will attack you once you are seen, simply wave the torch on the horse while the animals attack you, this can be easily accomplished.
  • An easy way to gain Rank 4 is to attack the animal with Holy Water and then strike the creature once or more with the torch (Note: You may need to use more than one bottle of Holy Water to kill an Undead Cougar or Undead Bear). When the animal dies, it will count as if the creature was killed with the torch.
  • It helps to ride Pestilence to complete Rank 4, you won't be knocked off the horse by bears, cougars or wolves, but the undead can still swamp you. Chase down the bears and cougars while on horseback, attack with the torch any chance you get until they die.
  • It is extremely advised that the player has Medicine in their inventory when attempting to complete this rank, as undead bears and undead cougars can still injure and potentially kill the player, even on horseback. If the player does not have Medicine at their disposal, they can obtain some by finding and completing world events.
  • Although a general tip when completing any challenges, it is stressed for this rank specifically that the player saves their game periodically after making progress on completing this rank. If the player dies at any time while this rank is active, their progress will be reset back to what it was when they last saved the game.
  • While undead bears can only be found in Tall Trees, undead cougars and undead wolves can be found nearly everywhere else across the map. It may be wise to kill the required amount of undead cougars and undead wolves outside of Tall Trees before going to kill the undead bears. This way, the only animal the player has to hunt down in Tall Trees are the undead bears; any undead wolves and undead cougars the player stumbles upon while looking for undead bears can be dispatched easily this way, and therefore, the player will be at a lower risk of dying before completing the rank entirely.

Glitches[]

• Undead Hunter Rank 3 occasionally has a glitch that doesn't register the rank as being completed despite meeting the criteria. It may be necessary to attempt the challenge again in a later game session.
• Similar to above, Undead Hunter Rank 4 has a glitch where the game does not register a kill with the torch on the animal required. A possible way to prevent this from happening is to keep the torch equipped after striking the undead animal until they die.
