Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare Trophy Guide (2023) - Dayngls' Guides (2024)

Welcome to the Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare Trophy guide!

This guide only covers Undead Nightmare. Although Undead Nightmare is included in the base game Trophy list, the base game has been given its own separate Trophy guide. These Trophies are required for the Platinum in the 2023 port of Red Dead Redemption on PlayStation 4.

  • Red Dead Redemption Trophy Guide

4/10 Estimated Difficulty
8 – 12 Estimated Hours to Completion
1 Minimum Playthrough
0 Missable Trophies

First, you’re going to want to complete the story. Advancing and completing the story will open everything up here. The story doesn’t follow the same structure as the base game. You’re going to have to do side content in order for the next story missions to unlock. If you don’t have any on your map, just start doing any available side content.

The entirety of the Trophy list below is all part of getting 100% in game completion. By earning the Trophies, you will also be marking objectives off of the 100% checklist. So, you’re going to want to save the “Zed’s Dead, Baby” Trophy for last.

So, everything you’re going to be doing will actually be progress toward multiple completion objectives.

Jorge’s Gap

Jorge’s Gap is a location southwest from Armadillo. It is a narrow canyon like path that is absolutely loaded with zombies. That makes it the perfect place to do any kill or challenge related Trophy.

You can make use of it for Trophies in the base game as well.

When you get the horse, Death, you instant kill enemies by running into them. Well, whatever weapon you have out and equipped while doing that, will get the credit for the kills. So that means you can rack up the kills very quickly for the 500 kill weapon specific Trophies from the base game.

Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare Trophy Guide (2023) - Dayngls' Guides (6)Spinning Plates

Have every territory saved at the same time during the Undead Nightmare.

This cannot be earned until you are able to travel to Mexico. Completing story missions will take you there.

In order for a territory to be “saved,” you need to go to the town and clear out all of the zombies. This will automatically begin as you enter whichever town you’re at. These will also be marked on your map as white ? icons.

After you save a town, they will temporarily be safe. After a while, the town will be under attack again and you will need to re-save it.

They do stay safe for quite awhile. So, you don’t have to really rush to get this done. But do be mindful of it. Clear out the towns as you come across them. Not only is this needed for the Trophy, but safe towns also act as save points and fast travel points.

The following towns all need to be marked safe at the same time:

U.S.

  • Cochinay
  • Manzanita post
  • Pacific Union R.R. Camp
  • Thieves’ Landing
  • McFarlane’s Ranch
  • Twin Rocks

  • Ridgewood Farm
  • Rathskeller Fork
  • Gaptooth Breach

Death will be given to you automatically upon completion of the story.

Rank 2 – Kill 25 Bruisers (big ones that charge) and 15 retchers (glowing green ones).

Rank 4 – Kill 2 undead bears, 5 undead wolves and 3 undead cougars with the torch. Easier than it sounds. All 3 can be found in Tall Trees. Ride Pestilence and swing with the torch at the animals while on the horse.

Rank 5 – Find and kill the Chupacabra. See “Chupathingy” for more details.

    • Undead Sharpshooter

Rank 3 – Kill 5 flaming undead in one Dead Eye use. – Open your inventory and equip the phosphorus coating bullets. Mark 5 enemies in Dead Eye and shoot them with the Phospherus rounds. You get these from Nigel as part of the story. If that doesn’t work, throw a couple of fire bottles into Jorge’s Gorge and then finish them off in Dead Eye.

Rank 4 – Kill one of each undead type in one Dead Eye use. – All four enemy types spawn together right outside of the El Presidio gate. Use bait to get them closer together if needed. You can also use the Explosive Rifle for this if they are close enough.

Rank 5 – Get 5 undead sniper kills in 8 seconds without using Dead Eye. – Stand outside of Jorge’s Gap and quickly snipe at least 5. They will be grouped up so that should make them easy to hit.

You can also run up to them with the sniper rifle equipped and pull off an execution. Just run from one to next as quickly as you can.

    • Undead Treasure Hunter

To begin this, you will need to encounter a random blue dot event. There will be an NPC in the wilderness fighting off zombies with a Gatling gun. Loot his chest. All you have to do then is find the treasure at each location to complete these.

Rank 1 – Far north above Hennigan’s Stead outside of the map boundaries.

Rank 2 – This is southeast from Coot’s Chapel on a ledge next to the cliff at Mescalero.

Rank 3 – This in between two big rock formations directly across from The Scratching Post. You need to climb up the rock formation and get to the middle of it.

Rank 4 – This just southwest of Sepulcro in front of three palm trees.

Rank 5 – This up on a cliff in between Agave Viejo and Casa Madrugada. You’ll need to use a horse to make it up a steep sloped hill that leads to the ledge.

See the “Zed’s Dead, Baby” Trophy above for more details.

Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare Trophy Guide (2023) - Dayngls' Guides (15)Fan Service

Find and break a unicorn.

Before you can find a unicorn, you will need to first find and break the four horses of the apocalypse.

Three of the four horses are random spawns. A big blue radius will appear on your map as you are traveling with a message that will say a mythical creature is nearby. When you see that, head into the radius, track down the horse and then break it.

  • War – Must be broken in the wild.
  • Famine – Must be broken in the wild.
  • Pestilence – Must be broken in the wild.
  • Death – Automatically given to you for completing the main story.

After you have all four, use Death and run over each type of zombie. These are:

  • Normal default type
  • Bolters
  • Bruisers
  • Retchers

You can easily do this while saving a town or riding through the Jorge Gap.

With all of that out of the way, head over to the east side of Mexico. Go to where the three horses are pictured on the map near Torquemada. The unicorn will spawn here, but it doesn’t show up on your map. It is very easy to see though. It will be the only white horse running through the area. It wall also leave a rainbow trail behind it as it runs.

Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare Trophy Guide (2023) - Dayngls' Guides (18)Chupathingy

Find and kill a Chupacabra.

The Chupacabra will not spawn until you have completed Undead Hunter ranks 1-4.

See the “Zed’s Dead, Baby” Trophy above for more details on those challenges.

Once you’re on rank 5, head to the eastern side of Mexico. You’re going to want to ride from where the three horses are pictured on the map near Torquemada over to Sepulcro. Ride back and forth to those areas and the Chupacabra will eventually spawn. It is randomized, but you’ll eventually get a big blue radius on the map along with a message stating that a mythical creature is nearby.

For me, it spawned just south of Casa Madrugada, west of El Matadero.
