In World of Warcraft Classic, Hunters can tame wild beasts. Tamed animals become their pets and help in combat by tanking or increasing the DPS of the Hunter. Hunters need to feed their pets to keep them happy. Additionally, a Hunter can learn pet abilities and teach these abilities to different pets. How to Tame Pets as a Hunter in WoW Classic?
To tame a pet as a Hunter in WoW Classic you need to reach level 10. After reaching level 10 you get a quest from your Hunter trainer. This starts a quest chain that sends you to tame different pets. After completing all the steps, you learn the ability Tame Beast.
The best practice to tame a beast is to activate Aspect of the Monkey. Then drop a Freezing Trap at your feet and cast Tame Beast on the beast you’d like to tame. The beast will attack you while you’re trying to tame it. The Freezing Trap will not last long enough but helps to reduce the damage.
What is the Best Hunter Pet in SoD?
The best pet for melee Hunters in Season of Discovery is a Cat with an attack speed of 2.0. You want to teach your pet the abilities Claw (Rank 7) and Bite (Rank 7), to maximize the DPS of your pet.
For ranged Hunters a Cat with an attack speed of 1.0 would be optimal. Overall the the impact of attack speed is minor in PvE so feel free to take a 1.2 attack speed Cat. Your pet should only use Claw.
For PvP you’d want a cat with a fast attack speed. Broken Tooth has the fastest attack speed in the game with an attack speed of 1.0. But Broken Tooth is very hard to find and tame. Due to the dominance of instant cast spells in SoD, Broken Tooth is less important for PvP in SoD than it is in Classic Era.
In Phase 3 the Wind Serpent got a new rank of Lightning Breath. This makes Wind Serpent viable for melee Hunters in Phase 3, but generally, a Cat with an attack speed of 2.0 is still to be preferred in most groups.
Where to Find the Best Cat in SoD?
To find the best Cat in Season of Discovery, you want to tame a Jaguero Stalker, Ghost Saber, Broken Tooth, or Starving Mountain Lion.
- 1.0 Attack Speed
Broken Tooth can be found in the northern parts of Badlands, where you walk into Loch Modan. Broken Tooth is a rare pet and has a big area where he roams. This makes him difficult to find and tame. - 1.2 Attack Speed
Starving Mountain Lion can be found in Hillsbrad Foothills and has an attack speed of 1.2. If you’re level 36 or above you can tame Swamp Jaguar in Swamp of Sorrows. Swamp Jaguars are roaming around all over the western half of the zone. - 2.0 Attack Speed
Ghost Saber can be found in Darkshore. The cat has an attack speed of 2.0 and is the best bet for melee Hunters. You need to interact with Cat Figurines to summon Ghost Saber. If you are level 50 already, you can tame Jaguero Stalker on the southeast island in Stranglethorn Vale.
In the following screenshots, you can see the locations of the two low-level cats:
Raluk has the same attack speed as Starving Mountain Lion and can be used as well. As a Orc or Troll, you might have tamed Raluk in Durotar to get your Rune of Flanking.
Where to Find the Best Wind Serpent in SoD?
To find the best Wind Serpent in Season of Discovery, you want to tame Washte Pawne in The Barrens or a Cloud Serpent in Thousand Needles. You need to find a Cloud Serpent with level 25, as you can’t tame a beast above your character level.
Both these Wind Serpents come with Lightning Breath rank 3. This is the highest Lightning Breath available at level 25. In the following screenshots, you can see the locations of the Wind Serpents:
What do Wind Serpents Eat in WoW Classic?
Wind Serpents in WoW Classic eat bread, cheese, and fish. Fish is very good to carry since you can feed cats with fish too. In case you’re using both pet families, fish is the best food to carry around.
What are the Best Pet Skills in Phase 3 of WoW SoD?
The best skills to use on your pet are Claw (rank 7) and Bite (rank 7). To teach these skills to your pet, you need to learn them first. This is how you learn them:
- Learn rank 7 of Claw by taming an Ironfur Patriarch in the northwest of Feralas. After taming it, attack enemies and make sure that your pet is using Claw. Do this, until you learn Claw.
- Learn rank 7 of Bite by taming a Saltwater Snapjaw on the east coast of The Hinterlands. After taming it, attack enemies and make sure your pet is using Bite. Do this, until you learn Bite.
To check what abilities you’ve learned, use the spell Beast Training. After you’ve learned the spells, you can abandon the pet.
