each month You can avoid the Monthly Maintenance Fee when you meet ONE of the following requirements during each statement cycle: • Maintain a minimum daily balance of $500 or more in your account, OR • Ask us to link your account to your Bank of America Advantage Relationship Banking®, Bank of America Advantage® with ...
Effective November 3, 2023, SafeBalance Banking will provide clients with the ability to waive the monthly maintenance fee if they keep a minimum daily balance of $500 or more in the account each statement cycle.
- Sign up for direct deposit.
- Find a bank that doesn't charge monthly fees.
- Meet the minimum balance requirement.
- Open another account at the same bank.
- Take advantage of mobile banking.
- Meet the minimum debit card usage.
- Ask for fee forgiveness.
A monthly maintenance fee (sometimes called a monthly service fee) is money a bank charges you for working with the company. The fee is usually automatically withdrawn from your account each month. In some cases, you'll pay the fee no matter what. But many banks let you waive the fee if you meet certain requirements.
Bank of America Advantage SafeBalance Banking® is a checkless account where we will waive the $4.95 monthly maintenance fee each statement cycle you meet one of the following requirements: an owner of this account is under the age of 25, maintain a minimum daily balance of $500 in this account, or are enrolled in ...
Maintain a $1,500 minimum daily balance. Have at least one eligible direct deposit of at least $250. Enroll in BofA's Preferred Rewards program.
Keep at least the minimum balance required in your account. This helps to avoid monthly fees and accidental overdrafts. Keep multiple accounts at your bank. Many banks are looking at the entire customer relationship and may offer free services if you maintain both checking and savings accounts with them, for example.
In other words, it's a good idea to have at least one to two months' worth of expenses in your checking account. If you make a transaction when there isn't enough money in your account to cover it, you could be charged an overdraft fee.
A minimum balance fee is a fee that many banks charge when your account balance dips below a certain dollar amount. For example, if the minimum balance required in your checking account is $500, but you only have $450, you would be charged a minimum balance fee.
Make at least one deposit of any amount each monthly maintenance fee period to waive the fee.
How to avoid $12 fee Bank of America?
Bank of America's checking accounts are only “free” if you meet certain qualifications. Again, to avoid Bank of America's Advantage Plus accounts' $12 monthly maintenance fee, you'll have to meet one of several requirements, such as maintaining a $1,500 daily minimum balance.
Bank of America Advantage SafeBalance Banking
The account has a $25 minimum opening deposit and a $4.95 monthly maintenance fee. You can have the fee waived if you're a Preferred Rewards program member, a student under 25 or a minor.
The bank largely stands out because of its long-standing reputation and the accessibility of its branch locations and ATMs in much of the country. However, Bank of America receives lower ratings for its savings accounts and CDs because most options have low annual percentage yields (APYs).
Is Bank of America FDIC insured? Yes, all Bank of America bank accounts are FDIC insured (FDIC #3510) up to $250,000 per depositor, for each account ownership category, in the event of a bank failure.
Bank of America offers just one interest-bearing savings account: the Bank of America Advantage Savings. This account requires a $100 opening deposit and an $8 monthly maintenance fee, which is easily waivable by maintaining a minimum balance of $500.
Bank of America, for example, advertises a $1,000 maximum daily withdrawal limit, or a maximum of 60 bills, for most accounts. Allpoint ATMs, on the other hand, don't impose a specific withdrawal limit per day.
Bank of America imposes an $8 monthly maintenance fee on its savings accounts.
It doesn't cost anything to close a Bank of America account, but it might cost you money to keep that account if they're charging you monthly maintenance fees. You can transfer money out of your account by way of ACH. Consider a new option that offers free ACH transfers and no monthly service fees.
When an individual opens up an account with a bank, they are often required to keep a minimum amount of cash in the account. This is the minimum balance and typically applies to checking accounts.
Look for accounts that don't come with minimum balance requirements. Some banks and credit unions don't have these requirements for certain accounts. Set up direct deposit. Having your paycheck automatically deposited into one of your accounts might prevent you from dipping below the minimum balance.
What happens if you don't maintain minimum balance?
When an individual opens a savings bank account, he/she is required to maintain the minimum balance in the account as per the bank's policy. If the minimum balance in the account is not maintained, then a penalty will be levied by the banks.
Typical savings accounts come with a monthly maintenance fee and an excessive withdrawal fee; both can be avoided if you meet certain conditions in using your account. Incidental fees, which are charged for specific services, often hide in the fine print of fee schedules, which not all banks make readily available.
Compare that to a high-yield savings account that can earn as high as 5.00% APY or more. If you keep too much money in your checking account, you'll forfeit the opportunity to earn a higher yield on your cash. Another reason you want to be mindful of keeping too much money in your checking account is fraud and theft.
Keeping too much of your money in savings could mean missing out on the chance to earn higher returns elsewhere. It's also important to keep FDIC limits in mind. Anything over $250,000 in savings may not be protected in the rare event that your bank fails.
One commonly cited data point comes from the Federal Reserve Survey of Consumer Finances, which finds that Americans hold an average balance of $42,000 in transaction accounts. This average is skewed by people holding high balances, so it might be better to look at the survey's median balance figure, which is $5,300.
