Best Zombie Games on PS4
Sony Interactive Entertainment
1. ‘The Last Of Us Remastered'
The Last of Us is one of Sony PlayStation's strongest first-party efforts on behalf of Naughty Dog. And if you still haven't found a way to experience it yet and you still own a PS4, allow us to direct you to this remastered take on the post-apocalyptic action/adventure game. As Joel, you'll be responsible for transporting a young girl named Ellie across dangerous locales filled with sinister survivors and mutated beings with zombie-like qualities. A deeply emotional plot will implore you to see where both characters' journeys end. And the realistic combat and stealth elements that come into play will keep you on the edge of your seat every time you run into those rabid cannibalistic creatures.
2. ‘The Last of Us Part II’
Let us warn you now - the ending of The Last of Us will either make you understand where Joel is coming from or piss you off altogether. Either of those feelings will compel you to see how the fates of Joel and Ellie unfold in The Last of Us Part II. Not only will you take the role of an older, wiser, and more menacing Ellie, you'll tackle the opposing perspective of another character whose life has been torn to shreds by her post-apocalyptic circumstances. The gameplay and levels of violence & gore reach new levels here as you fight to survive against raiders, cultists, and all those rampaging creatures infected by a mutated fungus. The way this game's two-character campaign unfolds may have caused a great divide between hardcore fans, but both groups agree on one thing - this game's level of realism is unmatched.
3. ‘Days Gone’
From the developers behind the Syphon Filter franchise (Sony's Bend Studio) comes an open-world post-apocalyptic trek through the Pacific Northwest two years after a debilitating pandemic. Days Gone puts you in the role of Deacon St. John who hits the road on his trusty motorcycle to find his wife whom he previously believed was deceased. Of course, that journey will be quite difficult. And that's due to the infected populace known as "Freakers" that gather in certain locations and chase you down whenever you choose to shut down their nest territory. Stealth mechanics and run & gunning tactics work well during your battle encounters, plus you'll be responsible for taking down bounty targets, saving hostages, and more.
4. ‘Resident Evil Origins Collection’
The bioweapon outbreak that's present within the terrifying world ofResident Evilis owed to the evil machinations of the pharmaceutical company known as the "Umbrella Corporation." The original adventures that'll introduce you to the expert unit of police officers thrown into action against Umbrella's monstrous creations are available in this quality compilation. TheResident Evil Origins Collectionfeatures impressive HD remasters ofResident Evil 0(which follows the trek of Rebecca Chambers and Billy Coen before the events of the first game) and the memorable Nintendo GameCubeResident Evilremake (which follows the initial mansion expedition of S.T.A.R.S. Bravo Team members Jill Valentine and Chris Redfield).
5. 'Resident Evil 2’ (2019 remake)
The PS1 version ofResident Evil 2is a damn near perfect survival horror game that stands out as one of Capcom's groundbreaking releases. The 2019 remake of that highly lauded game is worth seeking out as it improves on the original's visuals and modernizes its gameplay to turn it into a captivating third-person shooter. Longtime fans fell in love with theRE2upon release and recognize it for being one of the best single-player games thanks to its nightmarish jump scares, tense encounters with lab-produced creatures, and an absorbing plot that follows two of the most beloved characters inREhistory. Be sure to play through all the campaign scenarios to learn about the trials and tribulations of Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield!
6. ‘Resident Evil 3’ (2020 remake)
The life-altering trip to Racoon City that deeply affected Leon and Claire just so happened to coincide with the same one Jill was forced to deal with. The famous lady officer is all on her own here as she looks to escape her hometown while on the run from one of Umbrella's worst creations. Now we have to admit - the remake ofResident Evil 3is way shorter in comparison to theRE2remake. And sadly, it's missing a few portions of the campaign that was present in the originalRE3. Even still, the same quality gunplay of theRE2remake is still evident here. And alongside shambling zombies, undead dogs, and other bioweapons, the unrelenting "Nemesis" bioweapon hunts you down relentlessly. Run or stand and fight whenever that big brute gets a little too close for comfort.
7. ‘Death Road to Canada’
The premise for this next pick on our list of the best zombie games on PS4 is insane! So a crew of Americans is dead set on leaving their homeland to take refuge in Canada, right? And that's because the zombie outbreak in the good old US of A is too overwhelming, which forces them to seek out a safer alternative.Death Road to Canadafollows a car full of four survivors that drive to their new safe haven while picking up the supplies that help them stay alive all the while. Danger quickly arises during the game's "Siege" events, which pits all four players against an invading force of the undead that gets larger over time. The roguelike nature ofDeath Road to Canadahelps generate enough randomized moments that throw you for a loop and keep you on your toes.
8. ‘Dying Light Anniversary Edition’
Before launch, the firstDying Lightdidn't have a ton of hype surrounding it. But once everyone made the right decision to give it a try, many of those same gamers came to the conclusion that its clever combination of slick parkour movement and heavy melee combat works like a charm. And on top of those two treasured elements is a vast open world set in the Middle East where the last surviving humans are forced to stay alive amidst a zombie apocalypse. The risk and reward that comes from staying out late into the night to find essential goods and staying ahead of even more deadly zombies point to another one ofDying Light'sbest elements. ThisAnniversary Editioncomes with every piece of previously released DLC, which makesDying Lightone of the most feature-rich picks on this list of the best zombie games on PS4.
9. ‘Dying Light 2 Stay Human’
Now let's have a chat about the sequel, which you'll surely want to play after your countless hours spent in its predecessor. Dying Light 2 Stay Humantransports players from the Middle East to a new locale known as "Villedor." This massive urban hub is your (un)safe haven since the zombie apocalypse is still intact. As a "Pilgrim" named Aiden Caldwell, you'll find yourself wandering through that area as you smack zombies upside the head with melee weaponry, leap across building roofs, run as fast as possible from undead threats, and barter and trade with the last remaining humans you meet in various settlements. With the inclusion of a grappling hook and a paraglider, making your way through the sunny and dark corners ofDying Light 2'sexpansive world is incredibly satisfying.
10. ‘Dead Island 2’
Now this one ended up being a complete surprise! After being revealed all the way back in 2014, the second Dead Island game ended up in development hell and getting passed around to different development studios before it landed firmly in the lap of Dambuster Studios. And the final product ended up a whole hell of a lot better than anyone expected! Dead Island 2sticks to what works while implementing a cool skills system that comes in the form of equippable cards that alter your "Slayer's" abilities. The interconnected hubs of this game will take you to sunny beaches, massive malls, and even the sewers to confront all types of ravenous zombies. Once you gain the opportunity to become enraged enough to rip them apart with your bare hands, you'll end up lovingDead Island 2even more during your first playthrough.

No worries, though - you can arm yourself with a huge arsenal of firearms and get involved in a four-player co-op campaign that lets you blast all those zombies to bits. Zombified soldiers, sharks, and more will test your confidence and will to fight as they bombard you - group up with your allies and keep your finger on the trigger to stay in the fight at all times. This game's "X-Ray Kill Camera" makes the most brutal kills look and sound that much sweeter, plus the game's clever take on Horde Mode will keep you busy for a very long time.Zombie Army 4: Dead Waris a necessity for multiplayer co-op fans and another one of the best zombie games for PS4.
12. ‘World War Z: Aftermath’
It's crazy how the unrelenting zombie hordes that try to rip you and your allies apart inWorld War Zrun fast...like, really fast to the point where they look like they'd have a shot at speeding past the great Usain Bolt! And whenever they join forces to create a tower or avalanche of hundreds of bloodthirsty terrors, this game cements itself as one of the most nail-biting co-op experiences you'll ever play.World War Zis a shockingly great licensed game based on the book/movie of the same name thanks to its fun stage setups, impactful melee combat, a myriad of firearms to mow down zombies with, and relentless undead hordes that always keeps players on their toes. TheAftermathedition of this horde mode shooter is the best one thanks to its additional campaigns to play, improved visuals/audio, and the new "Horde Mode XL" mode.
13. ‘Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare’
Most gamers recognize Red Dead Redemption as one of Rockstar Game's most spectacular efforts. Its accompanying expansion Undead Nightmare is an incredible campaign that mashes up the best parts of a spaghetti western and zombie flicks. Mixing in zombies with an open world that's themed after the Wild West worked like a charm in conjunction with the original game's finely tuned third-person shooting. The single-player portion of this DLC is great on its own, plus the multiplayer portion of it (which includes the memorable "Horde" mode variation "Undead Overrun") kept most players attached to this game long after its main campaign came to an end. Undead Nightmare is further proof of Rockstar's amazing DLC output for its biggest games.
14. ‘The Walking Dead: The Telltale Definitive Series’
During its days as the most revered and respected point-and-click adventure game development studio, Telltale Games released its most successful games by adaptingThe Walking Deadcomic book series into one of the best narrative-based zombie games ever made. For the full experience that spans multiple seasons and spinoff stories, seek outThe Walking Dead: The Telltale Definitive Series. Across four main seasons, you'll become super attached to Lee Everett and Clementine. Plus you'll play out the major events involving fan-favorite characters such as Michonne and so much more.
15. ‘7 Days to Die’
And for our final pick for our lineup of the best zombie games on PS4, zombies rule the world in this one (because of course, they do!). You can choose to take a stand against them and thrive in it that post-apocalyptic environment via the main campaign or multiplayer mode. 7 Days to Die’s multiplayer setup places you and your online buddies in a randomly generated locale full of danger. And in order to make the best of a less-than-ideal setup, you and your crew will have to explore, craft, build, and do so much more. Raiding other players’ bases is a central element of thriving in this game, as well as getting into bloody skirmishes with a slew of vicious zombies. 7 Days to Die’s focus on taking down zombies and surviving for as long as possible may not be the most revolutionary concept, but it still manages to make its central ideas entertaining.
