You would think a reality show where people marry strangers would have an abysmal success rate, but surprisingly, many of the cast of couples featured on Married at First Sight are still married. Since 2014, the show has matched and married 64 couples so far with the help of relationship experts. For some, it was love at first sight. For others, it was ashocking wake-up call that they really did marry a complete stranger — and on TV, nonetheless!

Season 1 participant Jamie Otis, who married Doug Hehner, admits that marrying a stranger can be a tad awkward, but they managed to make it work. “I was not at all interested in my new husband,” the mom of two told UpfrontNY in 2015. “He was nice enough, but there was literally zero chemistry. No connection. To me, that was a huge sign. I just assumed it’d never work out. Boy, was I pleasantly surprised by this process. I’m SO happy that I was able to be open-minded, and I’m so thankful that the experts gave me my husband.”

How Do ‘Married at First Sight’ Experts Match Couples? Pastor Cal Tells All

Although it was a happy ending for Jamie and Doug, other couples have had a much more complicated experience. With the latest chapter of the controversial marriage experiment taking Denver, Colorado, for the first time — over the last 16 seasons, just how many couples have managed to make things work?

After the show, it was later revealed that David had a criminal history that the show kept under wraps, much to the chagrin of Ashley’s mother who revealed to InTouch Weekly that “[Ashley] feels duped.”

Elizabeth and Jamie (Season 9)

Jamie and Elizabeth’s passion was clear, and it led to some enormous fights between them on season 9. Despite the ups and downs, the couple wanted to work through their (many, many) issues, and when Decision Day rolled around, they chose to stay together. At the reunion, they revealed they took a break for a while, but still found their way back to each other.

Since the show, the pair have made a few states their home, including California and Colorado. However, shortly after celebrating four years of marriage, the pair shocked fans in April 2023, after Jamie revealed the couple was “taking time away” from their marriage.

“A lot of you have been asking questions … So, I just wanted to share that I’m taking some time away from my wife,” the season 9 star shared via Instagram on April 22, 2023. “It’s not easy, but it’s necessary for me to become the best version of myself.”

After sharing the initial post, the tech guru took to his Instagram Stories to give further insight into their conclusion to separate. When asked by a follower if it was a mutual decision, he replied, “At first it was not. Beth was the first one to leave. The fighting had got really bad, I’m not gonna lie. I said a lot of things I really should not have said.”

“I said them out of anger and frustration,” he continued. “But I also haven’t felt like I’ve had any reciprocation back of like, how to fix this or move forward. She’s been gone for four weeks, and I think at this point, it’s better for me to focus on myself and trying to become a better person.”

Unfortunately, their separation became permanent after Jamie shared that he officially filed for divorce in June 2023.

“Last Friday was a really tough day for me. I did something I thought I would never have to do. Here I am, sitting in front of the Denver courthouse,” he shared via Instagram at the time. “After months of deliberation with Beth, we were just unable to find common ground. I had really hoped to resolve this, but it feels like we have reached the point of no return. So, I made the decision to go ahead and file for divorce for the sake of my own mental health and well being. It was one of the hardest things I’ve had to do in a very long time.”

Though they put in a lot of work on their relationship over the course of the experiment, it wasn’t enough for Keith. By Decision Day, he was tired of waiting for his wife to open up and decided to move forward. Though Iris wanted to keep trying, these two ended up moving towards divorce.

In October, Iris reflected on her time on the show, writing, “Everything happens for a reason. God makes no mistakes! God’s direction may not be what you want, but it is what you NEED, it’s what he NEEDs and for that I am blessed beyond measure, because what doesn’t break me makes me stronger in faith!!”

Unfortunately for him, his wife wasn’t on the same page. When the time came, Meka revealed she wanted a divorce.

“Michael’s issues are so deep-rooted that he isn’t even aware when he’s lying or he truly does not care what the situation is; he will always lie if it’s convenient for him,” Meka exclusively told In Touch. “I really wanted to honor my commitment to the process. Part of the commitment was honoring our vows and being the person that we claimed to be to the experts, and I think there were many times that that just simply wasn’t the case for Michael.”

After experts and Mindy all called Zach out over his complete lack of effort in the relationship, his wife finally had enough. “I gave my marriage everything I had and then some, but when my emotional health and wellbeing were compromised, it was time to walk away,” she exclusively told In Touch in April 2020.

As for Zach, he admits that “without having any sort of connection with Mindy, [he] struggled to attach any emotional meaning to the words ‘marriage’ and ‘wife.'” Ultimately, he couldn’t overcome that challenge. “I clearly underestimated the difference between a traditional marriage with growth in a chosen partner versus an assigned partner,” he told In Touch.

“We’ve made best efforts to keep some parts of our relationship out of the public eye. In October 2022, the pilot went Instagram official with his new girlfriend, Logen.

“The past is the past and I can’t sit here and regret every little thing that happened before because all of it led me right where I’m supposed to be now. Jasmina and Michael (Season 14)

Jasmina and Michael struggled to get their connection out of the “friendzone” during the eight-week experiment. While the pair decided to give their romance a shot past Decision Day, the couple announced at the reunion special that they separated just two weeks after filming ended.

Michael asked his wife for a divorce, explaining that he felt he was “not getting anything from” the relationship. The personal trainer added, “I feel like there’s certain validation and certain things that I need that I’m not getting here.”

Jasmina on the other hand, felt that she had put more effort into the relationship than her husband. The educator also described a nasty fight that unfolded between the two. “He said I wasn’t putting in any effort. And so the way that conversation was handled, I was just like, ‘I don’t have time for it.’ So if he didn’t ask me for it [divorce], I was going to,” she added.

Olajuwon and Katina (Season 14)

Olajuwon and Katina shared instant chemistry from the moment they first laid eyes on each other at their wedding. However, Katina would soon learn her new husband’s unrealistic expectations for a “traditional wife.”

“As much as I’m loving you, I got to be real with you. I have to keep you grounded because I have to know when I say ‘Yes’ on Decision Day, I know you can hold this s—t down,” he told her during a March 2022 episode. “But when it comes to a marriage, there are some of these things that I expect to be already there. That’s what I’m trying to figure out, if you have that base.”

While Katina and Olajuwon said ‘Yes’ on Decision Day, the pair sadly announced their split in November 2022.

“After one year of marriage and careful thought and consideration, we have decided to part ways,” the couple’s joint statement read on Instagram. “However, this was not an easy decision to make. We leave our marriage with enormous love and respect for each other. We only ask that, at this time, our privacy is respected.”

However, only a month later, the pair sparked reconciliation rumors after reuniting for a tropical vacation in December 2022.

“Never forget you’re a fearless woman! You fight every fear from animals ‘Alpacas’ to deep ocean swimming ‘snorkeling’ and more!” the season 14 alum wrote via Instagram, in a post dedicated to his MAFS bride. “Thank you for always having faith in whatever my heart and mind desires in life. Thank you for making sure I have a strong relationship with God. I appreciate everything you have taught me about myself without you even knowing it.”

He went on to thank the MAFS franchise for introducing him to Katina and added, “God is good in so many ways I get emotional just thinking of my life and how much I have matured as a man. I am truly thankful words can’t express it.”

Their reunion didn’t last long as the couple seemingly split again by February 2023.

“We both have made the decision to walk away from our marriage. We are officially legally separated,” Olajuwon wrote in a since-deleted Instagram post on February 9, 2023. “We leave with the utmost respect for each other. At this moment, we ask for space. Thank you to everyone who supported us.”

In March 2023, it was announced that Olajuwon and Katina were set to appear on Married at First Sight: Couples Couch.

While the couple is seemingly not together, that same month, Olajuwon took to Instagram to share a few throwback photos with Katina. In one snap, he nuzzled close to his rumored ex as he tagged her Instagram handle in the post.

The off-again, on-again couple continued to confuse fans in June 2023, when Olajuwon and Katina shared that they were on a vacation in the Bahamas together.

However, Steve did not have a job and the lack of financial stability worried his new bride.

“They both come from close knit families with a strong desire to have children,” Dr. Viviana Coles said of the match. “They have the foundation for a long-lasting marriage but only if they can work through their financial issues and both feel secure with trusting each other.”

At the time, the pair stayed married on Decision Day and Steve re-proposed to his wife in front of their castmates but later split in July 2022.

“Divorce feels good,” Noi captioned an Instagram Story at the time, whereas Steve penned a lengthy note, which he posted via Instagram.

“I was not expecting this announcement to happen today, but I am prepared to handle it,” Steve wrote. “When I said yes on decision day, I knew that our relationship was far from perfect, but I held the belief that with enough time, effort, and understanding, we could overcome the challenges we faced, and build a healthy, functioning relationship. Over time, I’ve lost hope that this could happen and believe we are incompatible in ways that attempts at compromise can’t seem to fix or overcome.”

He continued, “Noi, I’ll always love you. I so wish we were a better fit. I wish we could meet each other’s needs without feeling like we have to compromise ourselves to a point beyond that we consider acceptable.”

Following their highly publicized split, Noi has stayed optimistic about her love life.

“I will always believe in love,” she wrote via her Instagram Stories in October 2022. “Despite all odds and the ugliness that has been served to me this year … How bold and brave in what has destroyed me.”

Lindy and Miguel (Season 15)

While Lindy and Miguel had their disagreements, the newly married couple shared a high emotional intelligence and were able to talk out their problems. Miguel had a tendency to blow issues out of proportion and Lindy disliked her husband’s all-or-nothing mindset when it came to their relationship. The couple ultimately chose to stay together on Decision Day.

Following their time on the series, Lindy and Miguel shielded their relationship from social media, leading Lifetime fans to speculate on a possible split between the season 15 stars.

In November 2022, Lindy shared a compilation of the couple’s televised nuptials via an Instagram Reel, asking for privacy as they “navigated” their marriage.

“We have shared so much of our relationship and are loving the peace of not filming a TV show,” she captioned the post. “Thank you for understanding, we love you all!”

However, Lindy later confirmed their split on February 13, 2023, calling their divorce “painful.”

“Sadly, it’s impossible to stay married if both people are not equally committed to the success of the marriage,” the doctor of physical therapy posted on her Instagram. “Neither of us regret getting married at first sight and are happy we experienced a genuine connection. While it has been difficult, and it didn’t work out for us, we are incredibly grateful for this experiment and opportunity.”

Lindy had sparked split speculation earlier in the month after reuniting with her fellow San Diego brides, writing they were “grieving and celebrating” one year following their time on the controversial marriage experiment.

Lindy opened up about the split a year later, revealing she was “blindsided” by Miguel when he asked for a divorce.

“I’m still processing everything in therapy, though it’s been over a year but yeah … I don’t know. We weren’t just right for each other,” she explained via her Instagram Stories in January 2024. “Right after we filmed the ‘Where Are They Now’ episode, he asked me for a divorce. Two weeks after we filmed that episode, where we were talking about looking at buying houses, talking about starting a family, re-took our wedding photos … yeah completely blindsided me.”

Stacia and Nate (Season 15)

Nate and Stacia were matched for their high ambition and had dreams of building a legacy for their future family. Despite being strangers, the duo sparked immediate physical chemistry but eventually found themselves struggling to meet each other’s emotional needs.

Stacia and Nate took their commitment seriously as they both opted to tattoo their wedding date on their hands. On Decision Day, the San Diego couple chose to stay married.

However, by the season 15 Where Are They Now? special, Stacia revealed to her mother that she asked Nate for a “separation.”

“Well, a divorce, I guess,” Stacia clarified during the November 2022 episode. During the experiment, the San Diego couple had conflicting views on growing their family and Stacia eventually grew frustrated with Nate’s slower pace.

“You have to realize your pace is a lot different than normal paces,” her mother, Stacy, replied. “You know what you want and you’ll go after it, and a lot of people aren’t there.”

While at the time, the couple decided to work on their marriage — fans have speculated Nate and Stacia have since split.

In December 2022, Nate ignited the rumors when he took to Instagram to reveal what looked like a romantic rooftop dinner — with a woman who wasn’t his wife.

“I’m working on something for all of you,” the stockbroker wrote in the caption. “Stay tuned for an announcement … Right place, right time. Cheers to alignment and abundance.”

In the comment section, Lifetime viewers were quick to point out his wife’s absence.

“Where’s Stacia?” one follower wrote. Meanwhile, another added, “Why aren’t you making boss moves with your wife? No dates, no pics. Nada.”

Following speculation, Stacia confirmed that she and Nate called it quits during the season 16 kickoff special in December 2022. “Nate is no longer around. Yeah, I am divorced,” she revealed. “Yeah, It’s time [to move on].”

“Everything that he agreed to do on the show were all words. There was no action. I gave it time. I waited. I was patient. I lived with him to give him more time to let him know that I was committed,” the TV personality continued. “I still want to be friends. I have no ill will [toward] him.
