Guide - How to Start Dungeon as a Beginner? (2024)

Intro
Dungeon has changed its stage in the game. Dungeon is not exclusive to late game players anymore. Floor 4 was once a stage for endgame players, but now even mid game players can beat it. I think it is time to make a thread about it since huge changes are made.
I am not a top tier dungeon player, but I spent a lot of time in early and mid game (about 3 months of 5 hours a day. I suck at progression). I made many mistakes in my sb dungeon career so I think I can give constructed advice to beginners.

Requirement
Even though the requirement to play dungeon has been lowered, there is still a requirement to get start dungeon easily.

Collecting fairy souls grant you huge health, defense, strength, and some speed bonus. They are essential for all beginners to be successful. Check spoiler for wiki (more information) and Timedeo's fairy soul guide (recommended video guide)

Most skill bonus does not affect much of your gameplay. However, combat is the most crucial skill in dungeon, followed by foraging. You want your combat skill as high as it can. Farm in the end or grind t3 revenant (t4 if you can afford it and beat it) to level up combat.

Parenthesis = recommended lvl but not required
Revenant: Need at least slayer lvl 3 (you need the mending wand, this item is good for beginners but useless after a while). Need lvl 5 if you decide to play mage (you need the voodoo doll).
Tarantula: Need at least slayer lvl 1 (spider ring talisman), slayer lvl 4 is recommended but not required (lvl 4 unlocks you the access to tarantula armor)
Sven: Need at least slayer lvl 2 (radiant orb), slayer lvl 5 is recommended but not required (lvl 5 unlocks recipe for talisman upgrade).

Talismans 35+
You want to get all the easy talismans (about 35+). Use the wiki in the spoiler for more information.

Use the discord bot "Skyblock Weight Calculator" by lily <3 (recommended) to figure out your stage of game.

Class
Congratulations! You've met all the requirements. It's time to choose a class.
Everyone has their own tastes when coming to choose a class. I will separate it into two groups: fairies and serious gamer.

Experience with all class and choose one that seems most interesting for you.

To become better in dungeon, you need a lot of money, gears, and dungeon essence. Thus, when you start dungeon, you want to be able to CLEAR ROOM by yourself. This is because you can get a lot of loot. Loot is money and dungeon essence, which will boost you later on. Here is a table that shows each class's pros and cons and my opinion for ROOM CLEARING ABILITY on each class:

Mage is best for room clearing, followed by bersesrk and archer. You should not choose healer or tank unless you can't survive.

Mage

Weapon: Heroic Bonzo Staff (or epic rarity Heroic Dreadlord Sword; use frozen scythe if you have it already) and Voodoo Doll (must have)
Armor: Start off with full wise dragon armor (you can buy bonzo mask from auction and replace wise dragon helmet for more survivablity). Once you hit catacomb lvl 5, buy dark goggles from ophelia. Once you hit catacomb lvl 9, buy legendary zombie soldier chestplate, leggings, and boots. Everything should be reforged to wise.
Pet: epic/legendary sheep
Accessories refroge: bizarre

Weapon: Flower of Truth. This weapon is essential for berserk. You must need it to be successful
Armor: Start off with your normal damage set but use bonzo mask as the helmet. Once you hit catacomb lvl 2, Use bonzo mask + 3/4 epic heavy armor. Convert to zombie soldier once you hit cata 9.
Pet: legendary wither skeleton
Accessories refroge: forceful below rare, strong above epic.

Edit: Use the following sword. It has no requirement at all.

Weapon: Hurricane bow, epic machingun bow and the best sword you have. Flower of Truth is recommended but not needed
Armor: Start off with your normal damage set but use bonzo mask as the helmet. Use 3/4 skeleton grunt + bonzo mask until you hit cata 9. Replace 3/4 skeleton grunt with skeleton soldier by then.
Pet: Epic/legendary skeleton
Accessories reforge: same as berserk.

You should use mage, berserk, or archer gears. You won't be using these two classes for long. (Unless you somehow converted into "fairies", or you love these two classes)

Edit: For example, if you want to play mage but you can't survive, get mage gear and play healer or tank until you can survive well.

*Check specific guides in "Guide and Strategies Section" for each class. They do better job than I do.
*You can always get better gears if you buy dungeon carries. But you will spend millions of coins.

Budget (comparing mage, berserk, and archer)
We won't consider healer and tank because you will just use mage, berserk, and archer gear as healer and tank.
Mage: medium (3-7mil) <-- Depends on if you use Bonzo Staff or Dreadlord Sword
Berserk: low (2-3mil) <-- Using zombie soldier Cutlass; high (10mil) <-- Using Flower of Truth
Archer: low (1-2mil); with flower of truth: high (12mil)

My suggestion: Mage is the best option for beginners. Mage is best at room clearing (most profit) and is not crazily expensive. All the other classes is either cheap but has limited ability to clear room or expensive.

Finaly words:
This guide is meant for skyblock beginners who are looking forward to playing dungeon.
